The Law Library Association prides itself on being accessible to non-lawyers. We have a print collection containing the Missouri statutes, Missouri Digests, and Southwest Reports available for the pro se patron. We have been obtaining or creating other resources to add to our collection that will be helpful to the unrepresented patron.
We have expanded the number of titles on our shelves from NOLO, the publisher specializing in a self-help series on numerous legal issues targeting the non-lawyer. Many of these titles are available in a downloadable format from our online catalog. https://stllawlib.bywatersolutions.com/
With the help of a grant from the St. Louis Bar Foundation, we created a Guide to Representing Yourself in Court last year. We have also created several lists of local reduced-cost legal clinics in St. Louis. With the assistance of another grant from the St. Louis Bar Foundation this year, we recently had the Guide, as well as the list of clinics, translated into Spanish.
We also provide resources developed by other agencies at our library. Those resources include flyers from the St. Louis Public Library advertising their Legal Clinic; the ArchCity Defenders' “Guide To Representing Yourself When Facing Eviction”, and the National Council of Jewish Women St. Louis’s Family Resource Guide.
The Library also has a Legal Websites page for our pro se patrons. This webpage provides online links to numerous resources, including the Missouri and Illinois court systems, local and state government webpages, and self-help resources. Several of our flyers and brochures are downloadable from this webpage. Go to https://llastl.org/legal-websites to view those resources.
Plan to visit or call the Law Library Association of St. Louis or check out our website at https://llastl.org to find out more about all of our resources for non-attorneys.
